What's in a Name Senator "Flake"?
An open letter to Arizona Senator Jake Flake (R, Snowflake)
Dear Senator Flake (jflake@azleg.gov),
This week Governor Janet Napolitano, in conjunction with two of your Republican colleagues, offered a plan to help bring our Valley's air pollution under control. Fortunately, their proposal came under immediate opposition from you! You are quoted as saying it is "premature to put that heavy of a bill through" and that you wanted to take your fellow senators' legislation and "tone it down a bit". Thank you Senator Flake!
The governor's "heavy" plan calls for such outlandish measures as cracking down on outdoor burning on high pollution days, restrictions on gas powered leaf blowers and expanded vehicle emission test areas. You are a man who understands these ideas are not in the best interest of Arizonan's health. I trust you. So I'm pretty sure Phoenix must have some of the safest air in the country. You sir are to be commended.
Senator Flake why do people with asthma and lung cancer hate our skyline? Just because many of them live and work in Phoenix does not give them the right to force us to breathe clean air. The American Lung Association, Arizona doctors and environmental scientists are not as smart as you sir. Your actions fly in the face of these health experts...and I love that about you!
Over the past several decades, large Arizona land developers and entities like Sky harbor have worked hard to create urban sprawl. The massive amounts of dust and particulates they spew into the air are what help make our sunsets so pretty. They and other big polluters are lucky to have a little guy like you fighting for their growing paychecks. Goodness knows they would be out of business if not for visionaries such as yourself. Forget about representing the people of this great state. Yours is a government of, by and for the corporation. Thank you for finding the courage Senator Flake.
