Enthusiasm Always Wins
Bee Brave

So I go out to my truck this morning and there is a bee resting on the door. He looked tired. I carefully unlocked my door, got in and closed it behind me. None of this activity prompted him to fly off. I am not a bee expert but I concluded he was probably dying. (Is it true they die after they use their stinger? )

This is where he rode to work with me. He didn't move the entire 12 miles other than to turn to face the wind.

I drive off to work, down the side street and he is still in the same spot when I get to the 51 onramp. I am impressed he made it this far but I know the freeway wind will blow him off. Wrong. I merge onto the 51, accelerate to 55mph and he is still there, facing into the wind, his tiny wings pinned tightly against his sides. A few minutes later on the 202 at 60mph with trucks passing me super bee is hanging on for dear life. And hang on he did. You know that bee made it all the way to my parking spot at ASU. I parked and got out of my truck, carefully closed the door behind me, wished him peace and went on my way.

The bee relaxes a bit after having clung to the outside of my door over an 18 mile journey.

I will never cease to be amazed by nature and all the remarkably wonderful organisms on this earth. What a strong little creature that bee was. I think the equivalent might be me trying to hang onto the wing of a Southwest Airlines jet as it taxis off the runway and makes its way over to San Diego. I occasionally have rough days but there is always someone or some creature that is having a rougher time. Don't laugh but the brave bee reminded me to be thankful for my life which I am privileged to live.

Would you have felt the same way if he stung you?

You're so appreciative of the bee's life- I'm sure I would have sprayed him with water or squashed him.
